the mercury program

Monday, June 26 by ernie

this little post rock quartet is mostly instrumental. this album is very much driven by the drums and the drum sound they got for the album is phenomenal. punchy, articulate, and spacious. they also incorporate the vibraphone and a rhodes keyboard into their music which adds a certain smoothness to the music.

theyre from gainsville, fl which i can say ive been to and driven past many times. mm, not much else to say. great drum grooves, guitar melodies, and bass riffs. a cohesive little band.

couple tracks for all of yall:
the mercury program - egypt
the mercury program - gently turned on your head

I learned a new word recently- "post rock". I really like a bunch of the bands that are more or less in this genre- M83, Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Ros....

The couple of tracks from Mecury Program are alright. The vibraphone makes me think of the 70s though. Like a wierd 70s punky, rock-y, sci-fi movie soundtrack. Haha.
