Muxtape Improvements

Monday, June 30 by Brian Pan

Muxtape released some new improvements this week, which means you should now have a better time listening to the music we're posting about. Hopefully, this release squashes the playback bugs that caused muxtape to skip songs and other annoyances. So far it looks promising.

There are also some more features with the redesign, including:
  • favorites have been doubled to 24
  • muxtapes now show who their creator has favorited
  • much better error recovery for broken streams
  • support for Linux, Solaris and any Unix that runs Flash

Here's the update announcement: http://muxtape.tumblr.com/post/40423464/muxtape-update
Here's our mux, as usual:

Happy listening!

sigur ros - með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust

i dont know where to start with this one. i listened to it for the first time a few days ago and i was blown away. ive fallen asleep to this album everyday since then.

their fifth full length album holds many firsts for icelandic group, sigur ros. this is the first time theyve produced an album outside of iceland. the last track is sung completely in english. track seven was recorded live with a full orchestra and a boys choir. they collaborated with mark ellis (another premier british producer whos worked closely with alan moulder on many occasions).

i love these british producers.

i also feel like this is the most human work theyve done. i feel like their past works were very celestial and cerebral. dense with elaborate soundscapes and abstract emotions. but with this album i feel like the emotions i feel are less complex and the soundscapes they create are more accessible. timeless if you will. with upbeat songs filled with exuberance. even the slow songs have a feeling of peace and hope.

i anticipate a pitchfork rating of 8.3
*update* actual rating ended up being 7.5. in general though, i feel like theyve always underrated sigur ros's work. always gotta take pitchfork ratings with grains of salt.

anyway, give it a try.

Ronald Jenkees

Thursday, June 12 by Dan Lo

Saying that Ronald Jenkees is one of the most interesting musicians I've ever stumbled upon would be quite an understatement. In a severely under-descriptive nutshell, he's a hip hop beat producer and keyboardist. Simply listening to his tracks is only half the story. They sound like the instrumental beats of a rap song you might possibly hear on the radio. You might even think (as I admittedly did when I first heard an mp3 of his before knowing anything about him) "no big deal, the beats are good but not THAT spectacular... I don't get it".

Then, all that went out the window when i watched a video:

What a riot huh? After that first one I couldn't stop watching his videos, some of them many times... just can't get enough. His overflowing genuine enthusiasm is incredible, and pretty inspiring to me as someone who has dabbled in music on and off throughout my life. He's also probably the only person on the planet who can get away with calling people "youtubes" and not be lynched for it.

... and here's a couple more favorites:

Peace out y'all!
