Cat Power

aka Chan Marshall. a lovely voice with a warm 70's vibe. one of those artists that fare best with a simple piano/guitar and lyrics, nothing fussy or too dressed up, bc you just want to hear that voice. her vocals create this visual of sun kissed fields, much like this video cover of 'wonderwall'.

early in 2006, she entered rehab for alcoholism. in an industry that can make an illness seem glamorous or worse, trite, she talks candidly in an interview about that time in her life.

in light of that, it gives a bit of new meaning to her song, "good woman" which happens to be my top pick. her albums are generally well received by critics and fans alike. one is entirely dedicated to covers ('the covers record' duh).
